Maiden name help!
« on: Sunday 04 September 11 16:09 BST (UK) »
Hello all. I've been searching for ages for the maiden name of an Elizabeth Goodchild, born about 1868 in Ducklington, Oxfordshire. She married William Goodchild (born 1863 in Thorpe Le Soken, Essex) and had one daughter called Gwendoline Goodchild. I've tried searching for her marriage certificate (from which i could view her maiden name)on ancestry however it came up with no good results. I will be extremely thankful if someone could please help me out in finding her maiden name. Here is the link for Elizabeth Goodchild in the 1901 census: http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=uki1901&indiv=try&h=3661534

I think this is her in 1891 (note earlier censuses say the name is Edwards)

Elizabeth Edward
Age: 23 born: Ducklington, Oxfordshire

RG12/ 31/33 p17
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

According to the 1911 census they had been married 19 years i.e. 1892. They are still at the same address as in 1901.

I think that is to "legitimise" their daughter whose baptism is on ancestry. I looked for an earlier marriage but couldn't find one and suspect the 1899 one is still a good bet - if a bit late

Goodness me! :o The man who married Gwendoline Goodchild is a William Henry Edwards, and his father, Joseph Edwards might be one of Elizabeth's brothers according to the 1871 census http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?rank=1&new=1&MSAV=1&msT=1&gss=angs-c&gsfn=elizabeth&msbdy=1868&msbpn__ftp=Ducklington%2c+Oxfordshire%2c+England&msbpn=86803&msbpn_PInfo=8-%7c0%7c0%7c3257%7c3251%7c0%7c0%7c0%7c5280%7c86803%7c0%7c&cpxt=1&uidh=ibc&cp=11&pcat=35&h=14363007&db=uki1871&indiv=1 Thank you very much davidft  ;)

Yes I thought there may be a family connection when i saw the daughters marriage. Still it was a marriage that was allowed in degrees of kinship, so OK - if a little shocking at first
