HELP NEEDED WITH ABBRVIATIONS
« on: Saturday 03 September 11 23:30 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out what the initials A.S.R.E AND B.L.A stand for. I am trying to find this out for a relative, her father had made a pipe holder out of brass and had engraved 82. A.S.R.E AND B.L.A 1945 France, Holland, Belgium, Germany. All she knows is that he served in the trenches and did not talk about his time with the armed forces.

Many Thanks

B.L.A. generally stands for British Land Army, a nebulous description which seems to appear in newspaper announcements e.g. my parents wedding in 1943.

My guess (and guess it is) is that A.S.R.E. is an abbreviation for Assault Squadron, Royal Engineers

Hope this helps.
