australia arrival KRYGGER

My brick wall is that I cannot find when my 2ggrandfather arrived in Australia. His name was Peter Krygger and according to marriage, death and hospital records in Ballarat Victoria he was born in Antwerp Belguim c1825. He states on his marriage certificate he had a wife and child who died in 1849.
He remarried at Ballarat in 1865 to Isabella Thompson and he died 1878 age 54 and had lived in Australia 27 years.
I would appreciate any help in finding his arrival

Try looking in the paper local where he died or lived in Victoria. Fingers crossed it could give a ship's name if there is an obituary.

What about naturalisation records for Victoria, particularly if he owned a property, he may have had to be naturarised first.

The death certificate's of the first wife and child might have a clue to the ship aswell.

Hi! Thank you for your reply.
 Peter did not own property he was a miner at Ballarat until he became ill, then he worked as a cook, dishwasher, wine seller etc.
I do have his funeral notice which is in German, it's been translated for me, but unfortunately does not give any helpful info. It is possible he was German but all the certificates state he was born in Belguim. I have not found a naturalisation for him, so I presumed it was not compulsary then. And I haven't been able to find where his first wife died, I have checked all the Australian states so probably overseas. The only mention of her was on his wedding certificate.

If Peter arrived Victoria c1851 then you may not find a record of his arrival as the unassisted passenger records start 1852.   Is it possible he may have arrived as ship's crew and possibly jumped ship?

Peter was declared insolvent in 1874

His surname is consistently KRYGGER on the Victorian indexes.  I note that there births in Belgium with surnames CRIJGER and KRIJGER on IGI.

Mariona, there are quite a few trees posted to ancestry.com.au for the family of Peter Krygger. If you have access, or can get someone you know to contact those relatives they might have the answer for you.

Have you looked at the newspapers on TROVE to see if there is any mention?

Cando - if he is part of a crew, is it possible there might be something on the Australian Mariners Index (not sure if that is the name of site, but I think you will know what I am refering to!)?

Thank you all for your replies.  Many family members for years have searched for Peters arrival - all with no luck. All the web sites on him, start with him in Australia.
 Many thought maybe he had changed the spelling of his name but as you say it's consistently spelt as Krygger.
I had found on trove re the insolvency and being a colonial wine seller.
I have his info from Australia but unable to locate his arrival.

Thank you Cando I really appreciate the info.
I have the Goldfields Hospital index on cd but it does not show that Peter was Roman Catholic or that he had been in Australia for 25 years or German Association. Is there another cd different to the one I have.? It did show he was in hospital on that date, was married, his address etc.
