Aldersley lead miners in Grassington
« on: Friday 18 June 04 21:01 BST (UK) »
 ???

Does anyone have access to the 1861 census for Grassington.  I am researching my ancestors who were all lead miners in Grassington.  Would anyone be able to give me any details for anyone with the surname of Aldersley?  This is an uncommon name and I know there were only a few at Grassington.  Please.... can anyone help

Cheers!

Hi Dianer, I am related to one of the Aldersleys in the 1851 census return. I am wondering what your interest was?

Hi

my great great grandfather was called Peter William Aldersley and he was a lead miner in Grasssington.  He was married to Mary and had 6 children.  When the lead mines started their decline the family then moved to Bradford and started working in the textile industry.

My great great great grandfather (Peter's father) was called James Aldersley and was first a waver in grassington and then became a lime dresser.  James married Mary Howson and they had 11 children.  Can you tell me where your connection is and perhaps we can share some information?

I guess that means we are related!! Peter William had an elder brother (one of several, Peter William being the baby of that generation of the family) named James. James was my great grandfather's father.  I have been interested in researching the Aldersley name for some time, as was my father before me. If you would like to exchange more information directly, please feel free to contact me by personnel message.(I live in Rochester, NY).
