List CY/542 would suggest that he was discharged with the Silver War Badge (SWB), which is somewhat contradictory to Para 392 (xxva). Does this appear on his medal index card?

CY = Cavalry York. Was he in the Hussars or similar?

Date of discharge suggests to me had had enlisted for the duration of the war and when it was over was discharged.

Thanks for the info, can anyone tell me if and how I can find out where the 1/1st Pembroke Yeomanry served during 1914/1918 and can I get an individual service record. Is it possible to apply for replica medals awarded to a soldier?

This is the place to start for the Pembroke Yeomanry:

http://www.1914-1918.net/pembroke.htm

If his service record survives it will be at the National Archives / on Ancestry, unless he was an officer, in which case, Kew only. Only about 30% of records have survived however.

No official replica medals are issued, but no doubt they are available commercially.
