Hi,
On An****ry in the Criminal Registers, September 1834 at the Old Bailey, A Squire Wovenden aged 49 , was accused of rape, but was aquitted. There are also a few newspaper articles about the case in Aug 1834, stating that Squire Wovenden was the Inspector of Police.
There are a couple of newspaper articles (Manchester Times) in 1840 where he is the Superintendant of the County Police , and an article in 1850 where he is described as 56, provision dealer of Miller Street, scale against purchaser, and fined 10s and costs.
Providing it's the same man there are quite a few mentions of 'Inspector Wovenden ' in the Newspapers for the London and Manchester area.
