only real new information was that Joseph was from the Parish of Batherston in the county of somerset.

That would be Batheaston?

Bath Archives (www.batharchives.co.uk) looks to be your next stop?

Thanks for that suggestion KGarrad, have looked it up, all I can get is sorry 0 results, but it does give the Parish as Batherston on Joseph's indictment files, there was two othe chaps with him Robert Maggs and William Stevens and they are from there too. Looks like one more brick wall, but I'll keep trying. Thank you rainybell

There is no such place as Batherston! ;D

Batheaston or Bathealton.

I'd go for Batheaston!

A written "r" can often look like an "a"?! ;D

I have folded the file as it was to big to send,so you can see where i got the parish of Batherston from, looks like I will have to put Joseph in the too hard basket. Thanks for your interest  Rainybell

BUT . . . . .
That will be a typed transcription!

It's what is (hand-)written on the original that counts!

And I be prepared to lay a bet that it was Batheaston!

As I keep telling you - there is no such place as Batherston! ;D ;D

There are only two adult Edward Crooms in Somerset in the 1841 census. One in Batheaston and one in central Bath.  Joseph must have lived at Batheaston.  (It's a village on the edge of Bath.)

FreeREG gives two baptisms for Joseph Rose in the Bath area 1814 +/- 5:

Son of David and Kitty in Bathwick in 1813
http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/SearchResults.pl?RecordType=Baptisms&RecordID=1712863

and son of Richard and Martha in Walcot in 1817
http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/SearchResults.pl?RecordType=Baptisms&RecordID=1708604

and another at Beckington in 1816 (about 10 miles from Bath)

http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/SearchResults.pl?RecordType=Baptisms&RecordID=1888585

but that's at a Baptist chapel so I suppose he would have been an adult.

None were in Batheaston but that's where he was living when arrested, not necessarily where he was born.

David

Thank you David, I didn't mean to cause so much trouble with that name, was just trying to explain where i got it from. Many thanks to you and the team for all your effort
