Hi,
I have found your post while I was looking for info on the Megicks.
I have found snippets of info about the Wentworths
I Have Thomas Wentworth B 1826 D 1902 and names of siblings with birth dates
His Parents are James Wentworth B 1975 d 1841 Married Elizabeth Megicks on 04/06/1820
Her Father as you Say is James Megicks of 1774 married on the 04/04/1798 to Mary Ward.
He is my Great Great Great Great Grandfather!

Also, would it not have been very unusual for a man to be a cook?

I notice that he was a college servant, according to his daughter in 1861.  The University of Oxford at that time was still limited to male students and staff, so a male cook would fit right in!  Some of the colleges have monastic origins.
