Baptism - Sarah Keen born abt 1834 in Longford or Sipson, Middx
« on: Monday 29 August 11 19:08 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know if the baptism records for Longford/Sipson are on line anywhere? I'm trying to find the baptism of Sarah Keen, born about 1832-1834 and I haven't been able to find it on Ancestry, FindMyPast or FamilySearch.

She is on all the Census returns, except for 1841 (there is a possibility for her in Hammersmith in 1841 but it still doesn't give her parents' names so not much help!). In 1851 she was a servant and not with her parents either. She married in 1856.

If anyone has easy access to the Longford/Sipson parish records and could have a look for me, I'd be really grateful.  :)

Many thanks.

Louise

Hi

This marriage?

Marriages Jun 1856
DODGE  Henry     Staines  3a 7
KENN  Sarah     Staines  3a 7

18th May 1856 St Mary Harmondsworth Middlesex
Henry Dodge Full Age Bachelor Cheesemonger Harmondsworth William Dodge Plumber
Sarah Kenn Full Age Spinster Harmondsworth John Kenn Labourer
Both signed - Sarah signed as Sarah Dodge
Witnesses Caroline Dodge her mark and James Strathon?

The 1861 census Sarah is aged 27 and gives her place of birth as what looks like Sisson (the use of the old fashioned f in the handwriting to signify the double s). Makes no sense really as Sisson or Sipson as a place.
The 1871 census aged 39 her birthplace is Longford Middlesex
1881 census aged 48 birthplace Brentford Middlesex
1901 census aged 68 birthplace Brentford Middlesex
1851 census Sarah Keen aged 17 born Longford Middlesex

Longford isa hamlet in the parish of Stanwell Middlesex

Ancestry's coverage of the baptismal registers of Stanwell is missing 1834. The registers they do hold appear to be the Bishop Transcripts the copies made of the registers which were not always done and sent to the Bishop.

The parish registers are deposited with the London Metropolitan Archives so should be on Ancestry if not now eventually (if they haven't been overlooked).

Hi Valda,

Many thanks for all that info, that's brilliant. Yes that is the correct marriage so if her father's name is John then the 1841 Census you found is probably spot on. Sipson is/was only a village so it would be too much of a coincidence if it wasn't the right one. By the way, Sipson is right by Heathrow Airport and there was some talk a few years ago about bulldozing the village to make way for their third runway. Not sure what the state of play is at the moment - probably on hold (I hope).

Thanks also for the info about the other Keens. I'll have a good look at it all tomorrow when I'm a bit less tired - I've been on the computer all day and my eyes are glazing over!  ;D

Many thanks once again, best wishes
Louise

EDIT: I've just found the marriage cert on Ancestry - they had her name indexed as Sarah Renn so that's why I couldn't find it before. I'm completely thrown that Henry's occupation is given as cheeesemonger. CHEESEMONGER? On the Census returns, his occupation is always labourer or carman  ??? But his father was called William and he had a sister called Caroline so they both fit....
