Perhaps he was Nathaniels nephew

1863 Harriet Hurrell married John Jane. Harriet was the widow of George Hurrell (perhaps Nathaniels brother as both born St Ive)

1871 Nine Oak St Ive
John Jane 36 Menheniot
Harriet 38 Landrake
Theodosia Hurrell 11 Quethiock (bap to Geo and Harriet)
Caroline 7  St Ive
John Henry 2 St Ive
Emily 4m  St Ive

Looks as though the three children born St Ive were baptised St John 1875.

Harriet was a widow at time of marriage, so not a Hurrell by birth

The John Jane who died as an infant was living at Furzenapp at the time he died

As it's the death of a child, the death cert should give the name of his father. It it's Samuel, you can eliminate that baptism.

Yep I said possibly Nathaniels brothers wife.

Catherine Keast mother of Ann Hawke Keast seems to be cousin to Mary Richards Keast. Their fathers being brothers John and Stephen sons of Robert and Priscilla (St Neot).

John and Harriets son John Henry Jane went on to be a RN seaman.

John & Harriet have a son called John, but he's younger than the one with the Hurrells on the 1871, 1881 &1891 census, so 2 different people.

Nine Oaks, St Ive RG10/2234 folio 58 pg 1
John Jane head mar 36 ag lab b. Menheniot
Harriett wife 38 b. Landrake
Thadotha Hurrell dau-in-law 11 b. Quethiock
Caroline Jane dau 7 b. St Ive
John Henry son 2 b. St Ive
Emby dau 4 months b. St Ive

Thadotha should be Theodosia

Hi

The bankruptcy is a surprise.  I will follow this up as I had no idea but it does explain why he left the area.

I have both the birth certificates for the John Janes born in 1865.  One was born to Samuel Jane and Ann Hawke Keast at Nine Oaks.  The other was born to Mary Jane at Furzenapp and does not give a fathers name.  I think Samuel and Mary are brother and sister.  They were both registered on the same day.

I will get the death certificate for the one who died in December to confirm if this was Marys child.

I will also follow up on the deaths to see if I can find the right one.

Thanks for all your help.  It is much appreciated.

registered the same day? No wonder you've been having problems!

The baptism for John son of Mary is noted as private which suggests the baby wasn't well enough to be taken to church

Is this Mary's burial? Age ties in with Samuel's sister Mary in 1861
