Building of the break water Peterhead may be you will find some of your family

I posted  many moons ago that i had  a disk with  the who history of the building of the break water in Peterhead. but due to moving house I had miss placed it.

 well today i found the  it and there are many  pictures of  the men that were involved in the building of it and  some are named . there are group and individual pictures .

 but I not sure i can  post it all  if i make a mess of this  please can one of the moderater help me thanks

 i have posted a few of the photos but there so many more and looks like i can only post a few at a time.

 my grandfather Tom Kelly and his son Thomas  Kelly  both worked on the build.

 I got these picture when I diver working on the new refinerys where I live in south Wales   was renting a room from me.  I told him my uncle and grandfather had also been divers  and were from Peterhead. he got out his lap top and then began to show me   the pictures he had relating to Peterhead breakwater. I then spotted my grandfathers name and later my father was able to  pick out my uncle (my mother's brother). The diver who gave me the pictures  had got them from a son of one of the divers  who also worked  on it.


 I have  pictures of the orininal plans the scale models  that were made and much much more but for some reasone i can't post any more pictures ??

I'm Vice Chairman of the Family History Society of Buchan (www.buchanroots.co.uk ) and I recognise most of the divers and support staff on the photos. I would like your permission to download the photos and put them in our archive. We could even do an article in our quarterly newsletter giving more coverage to the men and the project,

hi i am not at home right now so can you wait untill i get back from a badly needed break?
i have many many more pictures these were just a few. i took a look at your site and notices some fees for thing ?


you may be able to get a copy from the divers you know if you cant wait to see all i have? but theres so many it will take weeks to post a few a day here.  my grandfather passed away many years ago but his som aged 84 tommy kelly passed away last year. i would love to know if any of the other divers are alive and remembered my uncle or grandfather

Hi Leanora,
Thanks for the speedy reply. I'm just going off on holiday myself so there is no rush to get back to me. I'm afraid that all the divers I knew have all passed on, although the daughter of one of them lives only 50 yards from me. Our society is a registered charity and I don't know which fees you are referring to on our web site, but we charge an annual subscription of £10-00 and charge for publications by the society and other societies on whose behalf we sell family history related items. On a number of our own publications we give half of our profit to charities. On my own book, "Peterhead's Palaces for the People" the money goes to The Scottish Cot Death Trust. The only other fees we charge are for research done by our volunteer helpers for anyone requesting it and reclaiming of any expense incurred.
I look forward very much to seeing your other photos. If it is easier for you to send me a disc I'll be happy to pay for that privilege.

send me a private message when you get back, i should be home about the 19th it may be easyer if i was to post you a copy of all i have on disk? there are sooooooooooo mamy pictures. there are ones of the plans scale models of thr new break water, groups of workers the ladders that the divers climbed down [ found out from my uncle thes were train tracks as they needed to be strong] i have also many group shots of the office worker. last stone to be layed . group photos of all the peple who worked on the project.
