My 6 x g grandfather, Angus PETRIE died or was buried between 1736 and 1766 on Yell in the Shetland Islands.
As he was a married man with children living in Panbride ANGUS, I wondered what on earth he was doing up there..... bit too far for a few fish? ..... shipwrecked mariner?
There are no longer burial records for that period in Yell, Shetland so time for a bit of lateral thinking. Maybe he was mentioned in the Panbride burial records?
Can anyone tell me a bit about the Dundee area whaling industry about the end of the middle of the 1700's?
