6 of the burials for the dead children were within a few days of eachother (several on the same day) which would indicate to me an epidemic.  Lots to choose from in those days - smallpox, cholera, typhoid, typhus, or indeed something that nowadays would be treated quite easily, but which caused dehydration through diarrhoea and vomiting.

John also died 14th March 1750 not 1758 according to his age. I also have a list of the children's Christenings  dates if you would like them.

I found this today which explains the difference in death years of the family. The following applies to another family. the baptism of  W***    C******* is quoted in the modern calender convention. Strictly this date should be given as 22 Feb 1749/50 since the year used to change not on Jan 1st but 25th March (until 1752). The 31st Dec 1749 was followed by 1st Jan 1749 etc. The original register would have given Feb 1749, but in modern terms the baptism was in 1750. Hope this is clear .
I have attached Broad Christenings all at Plaxtol Church.

I visited Plaxtol today. Attached is a photo of the Broad Family Headstone. Unfortunately you can't read the engraving as the sun was too bright. The second photo is the top of the stone which I found a picture of in Old Soar Manor. When the Archivist is back I will ask him if he has any further information.

Hi Poppyann

Just joined RootsChat and was delighted to find your entries for Hester Broad. I realise that this is an old post now but have you found the info you requested? Hester Broad was my 5xgtGrandmother, are you related?
I have not as yet completed much research on the Broad family except to confirm that her parents were William & Mary. Have got alot of info on Fremlins.
Also have you been to Ryarsh churchyard where Hester & William are buried? They are beside Williams parents William & Eleanor.
I expect you have discovered the marriage date by now and the fact that although they were married in June their first child was born in November of the same year.
Regards Val :)
