WW2 at DRY DRAYTON
« on: Tuesday 23 August 11 08:36 BST (UK) »
Can anybody with local knowledge point me to a source for information about UK soldiers / units based near Dry Drayton at the end of WW2?  I would like to search for an individual name but would need some idea of Regimental names etc. in order to get a service number before I could even make a start.  I am aware that American soldiers were based in the area but it is definitely a UK person I seek.  Thank you.

Nearest camps would be Waterbeach, Bassingbourn and Oakington, all of which were RAF during the war. Oakington is the nearest to Dry Drayton.

Barton Field Camp in Ely was a prisoner of war camp in ww2 as were Royston Heath Camp, Royston Hertfordshire, Ledbury Camp, Ledbury Hertfordshire, Dancers Hill, South Mimms Hertfordshire, Trumpington Camp, Trumpington, Cambridgeshire, Sawtry Camp, Woodwalton Lane, Sawtry, Cambridgeshire, Lower Hare Park, London Road, Newmarket, Cambridgeshire, Friday Bridge, Wisbech Cambridgeshire, West Fen Militia Camp, Ely Cambridgeshire, Beeson House Camp, St Neots, Cambridgeshire, Militia Camp, Yaxley Farcet, Cambridgeshire, Histon Camp, Milton Road, Cambridge.

Maybe the person you are looking for worked at one of the prisoner of war camps.
