Military Campaign and award roll
« on: Monday 22 August 11 20:07 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Phew...I've not been able to sign on here for ages, but when I tried today I finally got to...WOO!HOO! ;D Which is great iming as I got a new record today and I just cannot make head nor tales of the handwriting.

It is a Military Campaign and award roll (he was in the Military between 1793 - 1815), and the person I am interested in is John Liversedge, who is the last name on the list, but I can't make out the writing that has been written underneath and at the end of his entry, well saying that I can't read most of the document to be honest  ???. I hope the picture is clear enough.

Thank you in advance for your time and trouble x

What  a fabulous doucument, The vertical words are names of battles in the Peninsular war starting with Corunna in 1809 and ending with Tolouse in 1814,
You probably know that the 23 foot are the Royal Welch Fusiliers.
It is nearly impossible to read the script under John Liversedge but the other marks in the boxes suggest the person was at the battle and awaded the campaign medal. there are some gaps in the  line across from John Liversedge perhaps he was wounded or had a disease and rejoined the regiment when recovered.
Interesting to see the name Capt. Wellesley second from bottom, I wonder if he was related to the Duke of Wellington.
It may help to transfer to the Armed Forces board some wizards on there.

James

Hi

Thank you so much for replying and taking the time to look at my document. I was so pleased when I found this yesterday (actual I was over the moon  ;D) Thank you also for suggesting a reason for the gaps. I had never thought of that, but it does seem likely.

I did also post on the arm forces board and got a very helpful reply, which I am now doing my best to research.

Thank you again for your reply, and I am so please I am now able to sign in to this site again.

To avoid confusion, perhaps further replies could be posted there, instead of here, please.
