Thanks for looking Norrie.
Only recently been taking my family tree seriously and it was my aunt who knew where some of my ancestors are buried, David Cook was her guess.
His daughter, Isabella Sunter Cook (the initial 'D' on the census looks to be an error) married Robert Galloway in The Minto Hotel in 1894 so looks by then David (hotel keeper) had moved into the hotel trade.
His father was an Archibald Cook, haven't checked from where yet and his mother an Isabella Sunter from Kilconquer.
Robert's wife was the daughter of Isabella Welch Goodall Paterson who kept a store in Cluny and who's grave I found in Kinglassie Old Kirkyard. Her father was a Robert Paterson who, family legend says, ran off to Australia. Not buried with her or mentioned on the stone!

I will also be looking at Buckhaven cemetery for the Harts in my family
Thanks again for your help!

Hello Norrie. Haven't been researching for some time now but have found some new info in the 1911 census that has started me looking at my MARSHALL family again.

Do you have an inscription for Andrew Marshall/Mary McLean?

I had always believed them to be in Lochgelly but my searches never turned them up there.

My recent research indicates that they might have been buried in BALLINGRY cemetery. Do you have any details of them in either cemetery?

Many thanks for all the assistance you have given over the years!

Thanks Norrie but they are not  mine. I had checked them out before.

According to Fife Council's records my Andrew Marshall and Mary McLean are buried in Lochgelly. I went there on my last visit and found the plot but there is no headstone for them.

With the release of the 1911 census, I have found a younger sibling for Andrew that I never knew existed. I have connected with her descendants and have heard a lot of oral history for that branch, as well as their stories about my own side. It has been wonderful. But they really can't add anything to my search for the illusive Mary McLean (still hunting for her after 20+ years!!) However one of them distinctly remembers visiting, placing flowers, and caring for her grandparents' (Andrew Marshall and Mary McLean) grave and is positive it is in Ballingry! I have been to that cemetery many times to visit my own grandparents' grave (Andrew Marshall and Isabella Stewart) but have never come across another family headstone. I am visiting Scotland this summer, so will be on the hunt!

Another clue from one of their family stories .... the younger sister of my grandfather was called Barbara, as is the recently-found cousin, and when this cousin asked her mother where the name came from, she was told her grandmother didn't like to talk about it, but she had a younger sister called Barbara and both of them were left on the doorstep of a childrens' home! When they became of age to go into service, Barbara went to a family who later emigrated and took her with them! This could certainly explain the difficulty I have had locating Mary McLean's birth certificate, and census details for 1871 and 1881!

So, that's the story I will be researching now!

Thanks for looking for me :)

Hello,

I have been to Lochgelly Cemetery this weekend and found my grandparents stone lying flat......it wasnt down in march 2011.

I need to find the number of it so I can make enquiries to have it re-erected.
The name of my family is:

William Reid
died Dec 1943 aged 60

Alice Reid
died 27th Feb 1972 aged 72

I know where it is obviously but have no official papers, or number and those who will have have now died.

Also I could do with a reputable memorial stonemamson who would be able to put the stone back up.

many thanks
Heather
