I am looking for info regarding my maternal Grandfather William Devine.   He was born in Edinburgh around 1870, lived and died in Lochgelly around1940.  He was  estranged from my mother Patricia and my grandmother Helen Devine nee Doherty and basically I know nothing about him- can you help?
Many Thabks Judith

I have over 1000  headstone photographs, from LOCHGELLY Cemetery
I can supply the inscriptions from the stones.
I have listed the main SURNAMES from the stones
Please supply the 2 main surnames you are researching
eg (father) David Brown & (mother) Mary Black

I see that many people are interested in Beveridges. I'm also interested in the Whites.

Hi Norval  I have many Headstones in various Fife cemeteries listing
Beveridge & White/Whyte
who are you looking for ? I need 2 names to check my index eg.
Archibald S Beveridge  & Elizabeth   Foy
Henry  Whyte  &   Isabella   Robertson

I notice you have a not very common christian name " Norval"

Dear Norrie,

That's a bit of a coincidence - even if there are two origins for Norval!

My interests centre on Halbeath and the surrounding area. Henry Beveridge (whose origins are presumably somehow bound with other Halbeath Beveridge families, but remain unclear for now) married in 1794. And his wife Janet White (whom I suspect of being very young), who may hail from Dalgety, although her younger brother Hugh White is thought to have been born in Lochgelly. There may also be connections to the Blaick family of Aberdour.

Thanks for your message, Norrie, but I'm afraid these stones are all too recent.

I should have said that the children of Henry Beveridge and Janet White (born between 1795 and 1816), and also those of Janet's brother Hugh, accompanied their parents in a migration to the Ayrshire coalfields around 1820. Only Isobel Beveridge remained behind in Fife, to marry Henry Storrar from Falkland in 1823.

Is this graveyard what some people have referred to as Halbeath cemetery?

Hi, I am trying to trace the grave of my Grans sister. Her name is Sheila Davidson. She was born Oct. 9 1942 and died 1949 age 6. Her parents are William Davidson and Marion Alexander, both born circa 1900. I know I have other Davidson relatives laid to rest in Lochgelly cemetery so hopefully Sheila  is there too. Many thanks.
