Hi, I have just been reading all of the info posted on this thread and I think that this family is connected to mine. My great grandad was Harry Spurling, his father was Edward Spurling and his father was William Spurling born 1823, william had a brother James born 1828 and a sister Hannah born 1826, William and James were both Wheelwrights. In the 1851 census when Hannah was living with william, did they live in stansfield suffolk. Any more information would be a great help.

Hi All,

It has been quite a while since I looked into the Spurlings - I've been concentrating on breakthroughs (breaksthrough??) with other branches for a while.  I have been very naughty, and not even looked at the Norfolk Board for ages  :(

My ggg grandmother Sarah Spurling was born in Banham about 1815.  Her father was Samuel Spurling, wheelwright and I believe her mother was Hannah Buxton.

I think this was the family in 1851:

Name Relationship Mar Age Sex Occupation Birthplace
William SPURLING Head W 63 M Wheelwright Master Emp 1 Man 1 Ap Winfarthing-Norfolk
Hannah SPURLING Daur U 25 F Housekeeper Banham-Norfolk
James SPURLING Son U 22 M Wheelwright (Journeyman) Banham-Norfolk
Daniel SPURLING Son U 17 M Wheelwrights Ap Banham-Norfolk
Address: Hardwick Green, Guiltcross
Census Place: Banham Guiltcross, Norfolk
PRO Reference: HO/107/1822 Folio: 84 Page: 22 FHL Film: 0207476

Sarah married William Towell (from Exeter) in East London in 1842.
