Samuel Tait/Frances Rhoda Morton. Completed with many thanks.
« on: Saturday 20 August 11 02:07 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find a birth record and marriage record of Samuel Miles Tait (or Tate). I've been unable to find anything other than census information online and I'm trying to confirm his parents.

Samuel was born around 1855 in Waterford. He married Frances (sometimes spelled Francis) Rhoda Morton around 1877 but I'm not sure where exactly. He was a Free Will Baptist. He and Frances eventually moved to Penobscot, Maine.

Thanks tremendously for any help!

Jen

Newspaper record of his marriage.  An online family tree shows is marriage as 31 Aug 1877 Salsibury NB but my interpretation of this announcement is that it occurred on the 8th.

The same oline family tree shows Samuel's DOB as 3 May 1855 Waterford NB and his parents as Thomas Tait (b. 1811 Ireland  d. 24 Jun 1879 Sussex NB) and Mary Elizabeth Moody (b. 1824 Upham Ire.  d. 1891 Salsibury, NB).

1871 census for Kings county NB show Thomas Tate (60) and wife May (47) with children John (20), Samuel (16) and Alfred (12).  1861 and 1871 census for Salsibury NB show Frances with parents Alexander and Elizabeth.

Have you traced Sam's siblings as their records might give you verification of parents.

Debbie

Thanks so much! I haven't traced any of Samuel's sibling yet but the parentage is what I thought it was. I'll definitely check into them to confirm though.
