Marriage in Beragh
« on: Wednesday 17 August 11 23:45 BST (UK) »
Hi. I'm so confused by Irish family research. My English and French research was a breeze compared to this.

My ancestors Patrick McSorley (M'Sorley?) and Ellen Kelly may have married in the parish of Beragh which is near Sixmilecross in Co Tyrone. This would have been before the birth of their first born child Margaret McSorley in 1864 (so possibly married 1860-1863). Their children were all born in Beragh. I realise this is before civil registration so how do I now go about finding out the details of their marriage? Where do I find the parish record? I cannot travel to Northern Ireland.

Many thanks

Rich

I forgot to mention that they were Roman Catholics

The RC marriage records for Beragh, covering the years 1834 – 1882, have been microfilmed and a copy is held at PRONI Belfast (Proni ref: MIC1D/35). If you are not able to get to PRONI, I believe it is possible to order a copy in to your nearest LDS library. I am not sure if they are on line anywhere, but others will know I am sure.

Thanks, sound interesting. Where can I find my nearest LDS library? I live in Basingstoke, Hampshire. I did try google but couldn't see anything. Also, would I be able to get Proni to send that microfiche to the library?

LDS website gives details of branch libraries-
https://www.familysearch.org/locations

Check with your local one for opening hours, ordering, etc.
