Tarras / Tarris, Fife
« on: Tuesday 16 August 11 22:09 BST (UK) »
Am trying to establish the parents of my 6x great grandfather Coline Tarris - born circa 1710 in Wemyss, Fife - who went on to marry Isabel Dryborough in November 1731.  Any assistance would be much appreciated.  Thanks

one colin Tarris Carmbee, bur 23/3/1783 but could be father or son. 26 tarress/tarres and 7 tarris/Tarriss but no Colin or isabel mentioned with age.

2 in Wemyss - only one around dates given;

John Tarress bur 11/4/1718

could be father but no clues at all.

Parents Archibald Dryburgh b 19 Jan 1673 and Catherine Cairns b 16 July 1676 both b Wemyss.

Your spelling of his name is probably what is proving the stumbling block.

You may wish check out this site also which appears reasonably robust re info and sources:

If you already have info my apologies. Just came across your post by accident and knew I had same names in my tree.

I am also searching for information on the Tarras Family in Fife.

I am looking for information on Alexander Tarres baptised 19 Nov 1654 in Diarsie Fife. His father's name is also listed as Alexander. Any information on Alexander, his parents and siblings would be greatly appreciated.

a simple parent search on SP for Baps tarres (soundex)/father alexander/Fife/Dairsie 1630 -1670 brings up 5 children.mother on 2 given as Mary (various sp) Prid:

nk             1/1/1650
Helen       28/7/1652
Alexander 19/11654
Andrew    14/1/1666
George     12/11/1669

seems a big gap so either some missing (or try without Dairsie?) or not all same family /second marriage.

fife death index tarres /Dairsie:
28/9/1739 tarres child of Alexander.  Maybe your alex s/o alex
