Hi Lesley,

Well I'm surprised at that as they sent me one just a few months ago.  The thing is when the office was at Bulwell Cemetery they were very helpful would find the grave and send maps showing where the grave was and would even arrange to meet to and take you to them but then they moved to Wilford Hill Cemetery and now not very helpful.

If you pm me your email addy I'll send you a copy but it won't be much help as it does't show graves.

I'll ask at the archives if they have grave maps other wise is just going and looking for the grave stone if it's still standing and that would take hours.

I think the staff at the cemeteries office just could not be bothered.

Hi Nottsgirl,

Thanks for the map offer. I was lucky to get the same offer from another kind person and I did get a copy of the map yesterday. At least now I have a clearer picture of just how big this cemetery is... it is massive! With the limited time I have to spend in Nottingham, I'm starting to think that I will not be lucky enough to find the grave. I will try my best though! Hopefully there will be some apparent order to the graves and it will be easier to narrow down the search area.

Thanks for your help!

Lesley

Hello

Can any one tell me if there would be any way of finding out where my twin brothers may have been buried.

They were born in 1958 at Nottingham Hospital but died a few days later. I was always told that my Mother never got to hold or see them but my Father did. They were sent home without them and asked if they wanted the hospital to organize the burials, which they agreed to.  :'(

Boy I'm glad things have changed for the better these days :)

Thanks

Linda

Hi Linda,

Most likely one of the cemetery's I can check General Cemetery Rock Cemetery and Basford Cemetery but if its Bulwell or Wilford Hill Cemetery I cannot do those so might be best to get in touch with the hospital to see if they still hold the records.

Hi Linda

I can't see anything for them on the Notts FHS cemetery CD.  It covers Basford, Church & General cemeteries.
I am not sure what years the disc's go up to.
Do you  know where the family were living at the time?

Hello Carol

I think we were living in Loughborough, Leister at the time, but my understanding is is that the Hospital dealt with the burial. So did they bury them, use them for science, dispose of them in their waste!!! Who knows.

The hospital system should keep records you would think, all 4 of us were born in the same Hospital as far as I understand and my brothers died because off the A- antibodies and my sister born after had to have a blood transfusion for the same reason. Must be records somewhere but where?

Any ideas of which direction to try next?

Thanks

Linda

Hi Linda and Carol,

The NFHS discs only cover the graves monuments and not all burials.  I had heard that all babies  that where buried by Nottingham Hospitals were buried in Bulwell or Wilford Hill Cemeterys

You could try emailing:  cemeteries@nottinghamcity.gov.uk  to see if they have any records but since they moved their office to Wilford Hill they may charge a fee and not always helpful but worth a try anyway.
