Polish RAF squadrons based in Northumberland
« on: Monday 15 August 11 12:12 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm trying to trace a Polish relative who was based at an RAF base in Northumberland between 1944-1946, unfortunately I don't know which base. I do know his name and service number:

Bronek Jasiukiewicz No: 782022

As I am not next of kin I can't apply for his official records but would like to find out a bit more about him. If anyone can help or point me in the right direction to continue searching I'd be very grateful.

Thanks in anticipation.

Might be worth trying 309 Sqn who were based at RAF Acklington during the war. You could look at the following:

Thanks Dee, very interesting site. Unfortunately I can't find my man's name listed anywhere on it. I would like to contact the person who runs the website but there doesn't appear to be a way of doing this (unless I'm missing something). I don't suppose you know how I might get in touch?

Thanks again for your help

Chris

Hi Chris,

The person who runs the site has his email address in the section 'A Word from Me' but unfortunately he states that he can't undertake searches for individuals

Thanks for that, just found the email address on the Word From Me section, I'm sure it wasn't there when I looked before! I'll try the contact addresses he lists.

I've searched all the usual genealogy websites but found nothing for a Bronek Jasiukiewicz. There are 2 death records of a Bronislaw Jasiukiewicz (I'm guessing Bronek is a shortened version of Bronislaw?) one in USA and one in Kent, England. Not sure either is the right person but will follow them up anyway. No births or marriages found.

All I know about him is that he was a close friend of one of my family during the war and they would like to know what happened to him. They lost all contact around 1945 and assumed he'd been killed in action. I was hoping to find his name listed on one of the Polish airmen sites to prove this but so far no success.

If you know of any good Polish sites (in English) I'd be really gratefull.

Thanks for your help
Chris
