London Pub History

Does anyone know the name of a pub that was the other side of Wardley Street before the houses were pulled down.

It is not the Grosvenor Arms at the top of Garratt Lane, but if you walked down Wardley Street there would have been an alley way to the left that led into Lydden Road and the pub was straight in front of that.

My Dad who lived in Wardley Street used to go there sometimes with his Grandfather James Long, and remembers there being sawdust on the floor and a spitoon. This would have been in the 1930's/1940's upwards.

Unfortunately he can't remember  the name of the pub.

Anyone that  knows anything please contact me.

You might find it by looking in a street directory of the time.  Not much online, but there would be sets at the relevant archives/libraries.

I know the name of the pub, It is called the jolly gardners it is still there. I drink in the grosvenors. I was  born in lydden grove and still live there. Some of my family were born in Wardley street.

There was another pub in Lydden Road at number 38, this overlay map shows the Grosveneor Arms, Jolly Gardeners and a Public House at 38 Lydden Road. Just did a little research and the one at 38 was called the Prince of Wales.

Also looking at the map it looks like there is an alleyway between 75 & 77 Wardley Street that comes out directly in front of the pub.
