Gilbert McGahey and Annie Thompson? (Bridge Street, Fountain)

Hi.
I'm looking for information on a relative of mine. His name is Robert (Bobby) McGahey and he was the son of Gilbert McGahey and Annie Thompson. He was born in 1907 in 26 Bridge Street. If anyone has any information relating to his parents I would be extremely grateful. I cannot locate Gilbert or Annie on any of the Irish census records but Bobby died in Derry in the 1980's and he was known to come from the Fountain estate of Derry.  I don't know if Bridge Street is near the Fountain so I would appreciate any help. Whenever I do search the census records, the McGahey's in Derry live in the Fountain but Robert is not among them. I'm a novice at this so I would be grateful for assistance.

Are you sure about the father's name? I can't see a Gilbert McGahey in the civil registration index.

McGahey William of 43 Fountain Street Londonderry J.P. died 16 August 1933 Administration W/A Londonderry 15 November to William McGahey advertising contractor. Effects £1636 8s. 7d.

I too ws wondering if you had the right parents names.  My great great grandfather was the William McGahey JP mentioned by aghadowey.  If you look at the census links you will find him at 45 Fountain Street with his wife and 2 children.  At number 65 Fountain street you'll find his parents William and Elizabeth and 7 brothers, one of which was called Robert.  Fountain Street is missing from the 1911 census however.  It could be we are interested in the same family.  Let me know if i can help you further.

Jack,

A Robert McGahey was living at 1 Nelson's Close Londonderry, taken from the 1912 Ulster Covenant signaturies.

Also a Robert McGahey [of the Fountain family] served in the 10th Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in the 1st world War.

I knew a Bobby McGahey from the Fountain Estate, his wife was called Nellie they lived in their final years in Belmont Estate Londonderry not that far from the Fountain Estate, roughly 2 miles.
In fact I have a photograph of both of them along with numerous neighbours about to take to the road for their annual Pensioners Bus Run this was the late 1970s and as far a I remember Bobby Died in the early 1980s
his wife Nellie outlived him I believe Bobby was related to the Wm. McGahey JP mentioned earlier in this thread he also had a Nephew called Bobby Fitzpatrick also deceased
