Mickleton Raine family
« on: Saturday 13 August 11 14:04 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I wonder if anybody can help me trace the parents of this child:
George Lewis H Raine

He was born (County Durham), on the 11th February 1910, dying within the Durham Northern RD in 1992.
He married Louisa Herdman during the September quarter of 1937 (Lanchester).

But who were his parents? I am unable to find him on the 1911 census.
His relative seems to think that his father may have been a Samuel Raine from Mickleton, but can't find any link - don't really want to buy any certificates.
Cannot find his birth on FreeBMD either, date retrieved from 'ancestry' along with death.

Any ideas anyone??

Thanks

Sue

Hello,

as you have probably found - there are several Georges born about that time but none quite with the right name. 1911 census shows a similar situation.
As far as I can see, your only option is to get his marriage certificate for his father's name.

best wishes
heywood

Or his birth certificate as you have a date, as this way you will get both his father and mother names.

Presumably the date has come from the death certificate - in which case it might be incorrect  ???

Hi All,

His birth date was extracted from the 'ancestry' website from the birth/death/marriage indexes and has been confirmed by a member of his family.

She thought his father may have been a Samuel Raine and his mother Margaret Bell. I have found a marriage for this couple in 1901, but no trace of them in 1911!!

presumably then they have the birth certificate?

No, I think she actually remembers him and his year of birth at least,

Looked at the place of Samuel and Margaret's marriage and it was St Edmund, Edmundbyers.

But why Mickleton Raines? As they are many Raine's in this area in Romaldkirk, Mickleton etc etc.

The marriage I can see is for Samuel Raine and Margaret Jane Bell. Is that right?
The district is Weardale and there is a 1909 marriage for Margaret Jane Raine to Ralph Currah.
Looking at 1911 indexes, I can't see a George with them.

Does any of this ring a bell with his relative?
