Mystery uniform and badges
« on: Thursday 11 August 11 17:30 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I'm hoping someone out there will be able to give me some additional information about this photo.  I'm curious about the "badges" and his uniform/clothing in general.... Anyone know what the uniform is?  The badges?  Also an approximate date for when it was probably taken.

Thanks a bunch.

I think quite early, possibly 1870-1880, and the uniform looks as though it might be Indian army.

Hello,

I had cropped the photo to focus on my ancestor and then it occured to me it might be easier to date if the whole pic was posted.  Here it is.

Thanks, I now wonder whether they are members of a Masonic Lodge or a lodge of some other order?

One of the rules of thumb I have picked up on this site is that creases in trousers came in the late Edwardian period.

They look like R.A.O.B medals to me.

To recap then, it seems we are now looking for members of an RAOB or similare lodge some time during or immediately after the Edwardian period, say 1905-1915.
