Hi Maureen

No they don't have anything on -line.

Here is a link that may be helpful -

http://www.manchester.gov.uk/info/448/archives_and_local_studies/462/family_history_in_manchester/11

If you click on "Rate Book Guide" it will explain what they have and what information the rate books contain.   The library do have a look up service but I'm not sure what price it is.  There is contact information on this site.  Hope it may be useful.

Kind regards

Thank you very much for this link, I shall make a point of searching it and also contacting the Library.

regards Maureen

Hi Maureen

The Wright family had their own joinery/building business as far as I know so its quite possible they may have gone to live with the in laws who I have living at:- Caroline Terrace Barton Upon Irwell on the 1881 Census.

Maureen

I see from Lancashire BMDs that Carrie Jane's birth was registered in the Chorlton-on-Medlock district, and possibly also Thomas' birth in 1889 (although there is more than one Thomas Wright registered at that time). So I would be looking for an address in that area.
Found these addreses in the 1886 alphabetical directory:

John Wright, joiner, 168 Stockport Road, Chorlton on Medlock, res. 268 Upper Brook St
John Wright, joiner, 2 Kingsdown St, Chorlton on Medlock
John Wright, joiner, Coleridge St, Grecian St Lower Broughton (the in-laws?)

I've assumed that Carrie's father is John from loking at the public trees on Ancestry - don't know if that's a safe assumption or not!

I think if they moved about a lot though, your safest bet would be to send for the birth cert - all the certs I've had from that time period have had an address.

 :) Barbara

Thank you Barbara for all this information.
Yes you are right his name is John and his father was also called John.
On John’s wedding certificate it states his place of residence at time of marriage (June 1886) as 56 Clarendon Road, Chorlton on Medbeck, Manchester. (Different spelling)
I suppose it’s quite possible that they could have gone to live there?
However, your right I do need to get Carrie’s birth certificate to check and make sure.
I am going to ask around the family first to check if anyone has it already.
I wonder how near the above address is to the ones you have found for me.
I suppose I could do with an old street map of the area at that time.

Thank you so much for your help Barbara I’m very grateful.

Regards Maureen

Choose the Manchester 1930 map, it's got street indexes.
