Mystery man found in Charity Shop Bishop Auckland for Dating
« on: Tuesday 09 August 11 21:04 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with the date of this photo?

I found this chap in a charity shop in Newgate Street, Bishop Auckland, Co Durham and would dearly love to find out as much as I can about him. The photo size is 17” x 13.5”, mounted on rather thick card and framed within thin dark wood.  There is nothing at all written on the card, so no clue as to the photographer, although it is very professional and still in the original frame, which is backed with brown paper. It looks like the photo has been touched up or shaded somehow, leaving a sheen in places.  Any help would be most appreciated. Maybe this post could be linked to the Durham Board.  Thank you.

Thank you Jim, at least I now have an idea of when this chap was living and thank you Sylvia, the revamp is first class, as always!  The photo you found confirms Jim’s suggestion of early 1900’s.  Thanks also Seoras for posting the link to the Durham board, I agree the odds of tracking him down are very slim but I could not leave him in the Charity Shop, he was crying out for a good home.  I am very grateful to you all.   :D
