Thomas Ferguson and Mary Moore had a child Thomas born Feb. 4 1868 Cookstown, can't seem to get a birth certificate for him and was hoping for some help. Could have been baptised in Kildress Parish Church and his parents are buried here along with some sisters.
Also would love to know who he married.
Greatly appreciate any help as I live in Canada.
Got the information from rootsweb.ancestry.com.

Thank you very much Colin, I have getting the certificate but they couldn't come up for one but I see Ferguson has 2 s. It should have only l.
Thanks a million.

I do not know whether the Fergus(s)on birth Colin has identified is the right one but I would caution against dismissing it simply because it is spelled with 2 Ss. The idea of a “correct” spelling is very much a 20th century phenomenon. In Ireland in the 1800s the spelling varied all the time, often according to the whim of the official recording it. You’ll see much wider variations than the addition or omission of a single S. You may miss members of your family if you stick to the idea the name was only spelled one way. It certainly wasn’t.

Hi.
Of the four children which I found two are spelt FERGUSSON and two are spelt FERGUSON. Elwyn is correct, in the 1800s spelling in Ireland was taking shape but you will find many irregularities.

Pepa, are you by any chance looking for Fergusons from Gortatray near Stewartstown county Tyrone? I know a Desmond Ferguson (he married my great aunt). His family history was very complicated and I know his mother went to either Canada or the States when he and his twin sister were very young. I am happy to give you what little info I have if it might be of use.
