Hi,

I am looking for info on James Stocks, married an Anne (don't know her maiden name)
they had 12 children all born in Starcross Devon between 1809 and 1829.


Can anyone help?

Can you give us a bit more info to narrow it down, which part of the country were they living, have you found them on any census, childrens names and approx dates of birth.

Philip STOKES c1821 - familysearch gives bpt 15 Apr 1821 Philip Bustard STOCKS Powderham, Devon parents James & Anne STOCKS
James STOKES c1823

1851C living Exminster
James STOKES  c1784 born Woodbury, Devon
Ann STOKES c1781 born Powderham, Devon.

James STOKES bpt 2 Mar 1786 Clyst St George, Devon parents John STOKES & Joan.

Also from Familysearch
Ann BUSTARD bpt 27 Apr 1783 Powderham, Devon.  Daughter of Charles BUSTARD & Agness, which would tie in nicely with the use of her maiden name as their son Philip's chrisitan name - Philip Bustard STOCKS.

1811: Henry  "  (d. 30 Sept 1881 at Dawlish. Buried at Kenton)

1813: Louisa "  (d. 25 Aug. 1883 at Croydon)

1814: James  "  (d. 1834 at Starcross)

1816: John   "

1818: Thomas "  (d. 1818, in London)

1819: Frederick  "  (d. Bombay, India, “about 1880”)

1821: Sidney " (spelt with an "i") (d. 1886, in London)

1822: William "

1824: Emily Elizabeth Stocks (direct ancestor, married a Bolt.*

1826: Charles (died at 2 days)

1829: Frances Jonna [sic.] Stocks (burnt to death at Starcross, 13 January 1853)

    * Emily married William Thomas Cosse Maurice BOLT, b. 18 June 1822. Died 13 September 1888 at 4:30 pm.
    * No dates of death for John and William are given and it is possible that they were still alive when the Stocks entries were first made in the Bolt family Birthday Book.

No problem Therese but it might be a good idea to start a fresh post inc the info you have on the Devon board rather than it being lost as a 'Saxmundham Look Up' on the Suffolk board.
