Henry (Roy) Fyfe and Thelma Fyfe
« on: Sunday 07 August 11 03:00 BST (UK) »
I was wondering if anyone could possibly look up for me if Henry Mark Fyfe and Thelma Amelia Fyfe had any children between the 1949 and 1975 in New Zealand? I know they were in Hawke's Bay NZ and were buried in Wellington in the 1983 and 1998 respectively. I am unsure of Thelma's maiden name. They lived previously in Queensland Australia and I cannot find a marriage in australia so itis possible they married in NZ also.

I have contacted the funeral home that handled Thelma's burial in Karori but have not had a response from them yet on contacting her next of kin.

Thanks so much, I would appreciate an help :)

I think Hawkes Bay NZSG have a newspaper lookup service? haven't got a magazine handy, maybe someone else has
Also at oldfriends/co.nz there are a few FYFE living Hawkes bay which would be worth an email

Hawkes Bay Biographical Index, localised HB records. Is this the one you mean Althea?  If so, I will put the address up.  It's a SAE and donation.

Cheers

Hello....

Thelma Adelaide FYFE died on 1 Dec 1998 and is buried in Karori Cemetery, Wellington (BDM1998/25055)

Thelma Amelia FYFE died on 14 March 1989 (BDM 1989/29965). Will need to check the NZ BDM Deaths fiche to find her place of burial or cremation as there is no listing for her that I can see on the Burial Locator CD. Nor one for her husband.

Both Henry Mark FYFE and Thelma Amelia FYFE are listed as living in Ryan, Queensland on the 1954 electoral roll on ancestry.com.

There is no mention of either of them on the NZ electoral rolls that I can see in NZ up to 1981

I can check the Deaths fiche at my local library but not till later in the week. Maybe someone else can do it sooner :-)

Regards
Beg

Hi Beg Thanks yes I have them in Qld in 54 and thankyou for clarifying when Thelma Amelia died, as I was worried that it may have been Thelma Adelaide who pops up everywhere!

I have Thelma Amelia in Wellington; Manawatu-Wanganui; Hawke's Bay in both the 1978 and the 1981 electoral roles as well as Henry.

Thanks so much for your help!!

Hi again...

Just thought I should mention that the mother's name is not mentioned on the NZ Births fiche until 1960, by which time Thelma is 45. I can check the Births fiche from 1960 up to the mid-seventies but, again, not till later in the week. However this leaves the period from their marriage in Australia through to 1960.

Just curious....is this a second marriage for Henry Mark FYFE. Just checked Archives Australia and saw he listed his wife Ruby Gladys as his next-of-kin in his WW2 record.

And for what it's worth Ruby is listed in Ryerson.

As Archives NZ don't have a probate for either Henry Mark or Thelma Amelia your best bet is a newspaper death notice, as mentioned. Most likely the Dominion or the Wellington evening one (The Post?)

Then you're a better man(?) than me Gunga Din. I couldn't find them on ancestry. Guess I need the full subscription. Although the fact you've listed three separate areas for only two people makes me think :-)

Beg

Hmm well that makes it a little more difficult not having the mothers name on there, it seems like newsPapers will he the way to go. I had looked but couldn't find anything online I could search them with though :( thanks for the offer to search 60 onward but I think she would have given birth before then...

Yes it's henry's second marriage and I will check out Ryersons thanks! I found his death listed by searching through a million nz cemetery databases as I had no idea where they were at that stage!

I was surprised to find Henry listed on the electoral roll in nz I thought maybe you would need to be nationalized to vote?? He is WA born. And yes I have finally just signed up for my first months full access with ancestry where I found them, and I admit it has been tricky at times as different searches bring up different results for me even when using the same terms!!

I gave to admit I am going fir a big if a long shot tracking his descendants down. My grandmother is his sister and she is 18 years younger than him. He ran off with the family money to old along with the only photos of their mother who died in 1935 when my nan was only 9. I am hoping against hope that I might possibly luck out and find his family in NZ still have the photos so that I can get a copy fir my nan before she dies.
