Emily HOPE birth record - COMPLETED

I have come up against a brickwall!!!!!
I am unable to find a record of birth for Emily Hope. 
There is no exact date of birth on either her Marriage Certificate or Death Certificate, they both only state that she was born in New South Wales 1893.
Of all the searches I have conducted I have not been able to establish if Joseph and Rachel Hope were definitely Emily's birth parents.
I am of the belief they were not!
The death certificates for both Joseph and Rachel Hope, nee Smith, state they only had one child......Richard.   If someone reads this and can offer any information or advice it would be much appreciated.

Is this Rachel's marriage?

1915
Willam A WILLIAMS m Emily  HOPE; marriage registered at  WAVERLEY #3209

And this would be her death?

1967
Emily WILLIAMS, parents: JOSEPH and RACHEL; death registered at WALLSEND  #27102

Seems that whoever the informant was believed that Joseph and Rachel were her parents.  However, she may have been adopted, fostered or her birth not registered.

An entry on Austcemindex states that a Joseph HOPE, husband of Rachel nee SMITH is buried at West Wallsend  cemetery.  Unfortunately it is an unmarked grave so no photo.  Also states that he is'father' but no children's names given. Died September 1913.

Were Joseph and Rachel married in Bolton Lancs, 1880?  I note Joseph HOPE, miner, b Blackrod Lancs living as a lodger in the 1881 census - says he is married, but there is no wife listed at the address.  Can't see a suitable Rachel HOPE though.


Not sure why she would not be on the death certificates.

Richard HOPE, age 9, child.  Their address is given as
"No 44, Hindley,

near Wigan, Lancashire"

Underneath that is another name bracketed with Rachel and Richard:
Samuel WILD, 14 adopted

I assume that Joseph was already in NSW and sponsored Rachel and the two children.

His address is given as Woonona, Illawarra.

This means that the births on FreeBMD in UK are not the right ones - Will delete them.

He enlisted for ww1 as a married man. He was a waiter

Wife ELSIE Next of Kin and he had 2 children.

He was about 40 in 1918 giving a birthdate of around 1878 and he was born in
LANCASHIRE , ENG.

This seems to be his death.

This man was cremated at Springvale 15/8/1960

So he seems to have been in Victoria for a good part of his life.

There are a couple of public trees on Ancestry which have quite a deal of information.  They appear to be well researched with citations.

However both of them only give Emily's birth as 'abt 1893'

I could not see Samuel WILD on either tree.

I think I have him in
1881, living in Hindley, Lancs with his mother and siblings.

Sarah is in the 1871 census, living in Bolton - mistranscribed as WILDE,

Hermas (sic - not correct, the image clearly shows Thomas) Wilde   27, newsagent and greengrocer

Elizabeth Wilde   5 - all children b Bolton
Janet Wilde   3
Martha Wilde   4 Months


If this is him then he is not the man in Victoria.  There are possibles on NSW BMD death index, one of which has these parents.

Samuel WILD, parents: THOMAS, SARAH, death registered at NEWTOWN  #26624

Obviously, this would need to validated with the certificate; these death index and census entries are only speculative.

Most of the information you provided I have already researched. 

I don't think I will ever be able to find Emily's birth parents, although, I have been told that there is always a paper trail of some sort.
