Hi

Does anyone know where I would get a map of Ellon Cemetery?  I've found 3 graves I have been looking for but one is still amis.  Visited the cemetery today but still couldn't find it.  Stone 179 Erected by Robert Young in loving memory of his mother Catherine Gibb, His daughter Lizzie Kirton Young who was accidentally drowned in the river Ythan 3rd Feb 1897 aged 9.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just realised that you quoted a stone number. The registrar won't have this, as this number refers to the Aberdeenshire & North East Family History Society's numbering system in their book.(The Kirkyard of Ellon). Luckily I have a copy & can tell you where it is! It's immediately behind the church, on the left hand side corner,3rd row back.Cannot copy the map for copyright reasons.On it's right hand side stands an obelisk in memory of James Reid.M.D.Hopefully you will be able to locate it now!

Thanks for your quick reply.  Does it give a location of the cemetery?  The one I was at today where the other graves are is located along from Ellon town centre and doesn't have a church.  I have since come across another searching online which is not far from Collieston (Ellon Parish Church), as they lived in Logie Buchan I think this may be it.

According to the records, they are in the one which is on the South (Right hand) side of the main road as you head North out of Ellon heading for JRD's or the Park and ride.

The grave you're interested in is in Ellon Kirkyard& not in the cemetery. As stated in my post it is behind the Parish Church, (Church of Scotland) which is in the Square, where the war memorial is .Hope this clears things up for you.

Hi, it was a lovely afternoon today so I went to Ellon kirkyard & took  a photo of Robert Young's headstone. I will attempt to upload it tomorrow!

I forgot to write back and say that I had found the cemetry and the headstone.  But I didn't have my camera with me so look forward to seeing the photo.
