Burial for Martha Wells circa 1773 please.
« on: Thursday 04 August 11 21:36 BST (UK) »
I have been checking over some of my previous records and information concerning the Wells branch of my tree.

I have double checked Family Search (LDS) website and found someone has submitted information on Martha (nee Foxon) Wells.

Just wondering if anyone has access to information, records or NBI that could confirm a death or burial for her 11.04.1773 in Claybrooke, Leicestershire.

Many thanks in advance for all replies

The NBI 3rd Edition has Claybrooke (St Peter) transcriptions between 1813-1848 and lists 9 WELLS between 1814-1841.

Hi Mike,

Thankyou very much for your reply. Could I possibly impose on your good nature and ask for details of the 9 Wells listed between 1814 and 1841, they could be part of my Wells family who I don`t have details of yet.

Really appreciate your help and interest Mike.  ;D

Hello Steve,
You might have your answer by now, but in case you don't, yes, a Martha Wells was buried in Claybrooke, but the registers state April 14th 1773.

Hi Steve,
Is she in your direct line?  The Wells are also to be found in the Lutterworth Independent registers, though they were of Ullesthorpe.  A Martha Wells was formerly a Martha Foxon, baptized 1744 if I remember correctly.  I have been trying to connect her to my Martha Foxon who was born around 1776, though I can't find her baptism, so I'm at a brick wall.  Aunt and niece maybe? (My Martha was later associated with the Ullesthorpe Independent Church ) I believe Martha Wells did have a daughter Martha around 1773, so the above date could be her death.

Hiya Carolyn,

Many thanks for your reply. I`ve only recently come across Martha Wells (nee Foxon), according to my research so far Martha Foxon married Thomas Wells on the 10th May 1762 in Claybrook. Thats all I presently know about Martha. I originally started this thread hoping that I could find information and details about Martha Wells who died in 1773 being the very same person as the one who married Thomas Wells.

If she is one and the same then yes she is in my direct line. She would have been GGGGG Grandmother from my mothers side. The only off spring I have found so far for Thomas and Martha is John Wells born in  1763.

Hi Steve,
Thomas Wells of the parish of Holy Trinity in Coventry married Martha Foxon of the parish of Claybrook by banns 10th May 1762.  He signs, she makes a mark and the witnesses are Joshua Foxon (her brother) and Benjamin Benford.  In 1802, a Martha Wells witnessed the marriage of my Martha Foxon and John Ould, possibly my Martha's cousin.  The Benfords are connected to the Foxons somehow, though I haven't been able to work out how.  Which of Thomas and Martha Wells' offspring are you decended from and I'll see what I can confirm?

Hi Steve,
According to my notes, I have speculated that Martha Wells nee Foxon was the one buried in 1811 and that the Martha who died in 1773 was her daughter bpt in 1763 in Claybrooke.  Perhaps someone could check this 1811 burial for you in the NBI.  Thomas and Martha had another daughter Martha baptized in Lutterworth Independent in 1774, plus others.
