Rebecca Posford
« on: Thursday 04 August 11 13:21 BST (UK) »
On the 20th May 1844 William Cook married Rebecca Grimes, widow nee Posford at the parish church Rochford, Essex. Her father is registered as William Posford , profession - Miller. She died with her new born daughter Rebecca Possford Cook in 1851.
I have searched without finding any trace of her and would be grateful if anyone has any clues as to her birth or parentage? She claims on the 1851 census to have been born abt 1814 in Rochford.

Hi Carolie,

There was a William Posford listed as a miller in Barling, Essex in 1809.  His creditors were selling the mill by 1811 and he may have moved on after that, but I have not record iof that is the case.

Anyway, you might was to try there.

Hope that helps,
Windy Miller

I think that it is possible that her father William Posford was born in Layer de la Haye in Essex in 1783.
There is a website which details many of the Posfords. Its a bit complicated but I think that he had a brother Stowers Posford.
Rebecca's son William Posford Cook became William Stowers Posford Cook on his daughter's birth certificate in 1890.
I initially thought that this was just an affectation but now hope it to be a clue.
What I need to track down in the marriage of her parents.
