Wilson - Ballyphilip/Ballingarry area
« on: Wednesday 03 August 11 19:45 BST (UK) »
Anyone have any information on the Wilson family in the Ballingarry area?  My grandfather, Daniel Wilson, was born on December 18, 1888 and his mother was Bridget but that's all I know.  I know he left Ireland in a hurry in 1924 - someone came up to him in the middle of a match and he walked off the field and straight to a boat to the US according to family lore but I have no idea why (I suspect, given the year, that he was involved with the uprising).   I discovered that he had two siblings I knew nothing about - I suspect they may have died in childhood but can find no record of them.
Thanks!

You could start by searching the 1911 and 1911 census records if you haven't done so already-

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Research Centre in Tipperary holds Baptism and Marriage records for Cashel and Emly Archdiocese which includes Ballingarry, you can check their website for dates of the records but i think it goes back to early 1800's www.tfhr.org but there is a fee for the research

There are possible birth registrations for a James Wilson Callan Registration district (Callan would include Ballyphilip Ballingarry) Oct Dec 1882 vol4 p 152 and for Daniel Wilson Callan district Oct Dec 1888 vol 4 465. You can order the certs online at www.groireland.ie either one should give you their father's name and place of birth.
