ww2 uniform identity

hi,
  my uncle was in ww2 and all we know as he was a bachelor is this photo.He lived in cardiff and talked about crete in war so we guessed he was in welch regiment.Can anyone recognise the uniform please.

The link you've posted is for a 'certificate of cremation', not a photo of a soldier in uniform.   ???

Hi Jaycm,

It's quite difficult to make out the cap badge, which is key in identifying the regiment.  Is it possible for you to post a clear scan of the cap only?  At the moment, when I try to enlarge the photograph, it goes all fuzzy!

Wrong shape for the Welch Regt. My inital thought was that it is the the badge of the Gloucesters.

I cannot recall ever seeing a cap badge which resembles what I think I am seeing in the photo. The nearest is that of the Worcestershire Regiment.
Southern or Southan [Hereford , Monmouthshire & Glos], Jenkins, Meredith and Morgan [Monmouthshire and Glos.], Murrill, Damary, Damry, Ray, Lawrence [all Middx. & London], Nethway from Kenn or Yatton. Also Riley and Lyons in South Africa and Riley from St. Helena.

Evening hack', the reason for me thinking of the Gloucesters is that their badge would be that of a half lural leaf surround with a sphinx at the top sitting on top of the word Egypt.

I am not going to argue with anyone on this one. I am really flummoxed. It was the 14th Infantry Brigade that was in CRETE.  At various times that contained   
    2nd Battalion, Queen's Own Regiment
    1st Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders
    2nd Battalion, The Rifle Brigade
    1st Battalion, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment
    2nd Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment
    2nd Battalion, Black Watch
    7th Battalion, The Royal Leicestershire Regiment

Does that help us at all?
