Reynolds and Cassidy of Ballyshannon (Corker, Kilbarron and Creevey)
« on: Monday 01 August 11 23:37 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for any further information re the parents or siblings  of Bernard Reynolds (born circa 1842) and Bridget (Biddy) Cassidy (born circa 1844). They married 29 October 1865 in Pettigo, Co Donegal.  Bernard Reynolds' death was registered in Ballyshannon between Jan-Mar 1919.  As for when Bridget died, all I have been able to glean so far is  that she was alive at the time of the 1901 census but is not recorded in 1911 so presumably died between 1901 and 1911.  On the marriage record his father is named as John Reynolds and hers as Thomas Cassidy but other than these names I have no further information on either John or Thomas.
I think Bernard and and Bridget had 10 children.  I am particularly interested in the line from their eldest son, John Reynolds, my great-grandfather, (b 21 Jan 1868, died May 1940) through his daughter, Elizabeth, my grandmother, born 23/08/1907, died 6/5/1982.  She marred William Hoey (possibly in Letterkenny???) and they lived with their large family in Ballyshannon.
I have lots of queries re William Hoey, but I'll leave these for a separate posting.
This is my first post, so any information or pointers on Reynolds/Cassidy would be greatly appreciated.
With thanks ....

For reference here's the family in 1901 census-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Donegal/Ballyshannon_Rural/Kilbarron/1165642
and in 1911- Bernard is listed as married not widowed-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Donegal/Ballyshannon/Kilbarron/476333

Sounds as though you don't have details of their ten children. A few are listed on www.familysearch.org:
1. John born 21 Jan.1868 Ballyshannon district (page 6 in civil register)
2. Thomas born 2 Jan.1870 Ballyshannon district
3. James born 23 Jan.1874 Ballyshannon district
4. Henry born 22 Dec.1875 Co. Donegal
5. Bridget born 1 Nov.1879 Corker, Co. Donegal
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Aghadowey,
Thanks for the speedy response.  I have already got birth info for all ten children of Bernard Reynolds and Biddy Cassidy - it's just that i didn't want to overload with too much information in my first post on this board.
I'd be interested in any siblings of Bernard Reynolds or any more information about who his parents were.  I think he had a brother called John Reynolds but probably other siblings that i'm not aware of.  (I have info re this John Reynolds' marriage to Alice Gallagher of Coolmore Ballyshannon on 31 jan 1864 plus 1901 census info John Reynolds where his name was recorded as Reyonalds but no further info about when he or his wife died.   I can't find any record of them in the 1911 census so assume they both died between 1901 and 1911).

I think this is the sort of info i would only be able to get from the Kilbarron parish records as i have not got any further on this via the familysearch.org website.  There are lots of Reynolds in Ballyshannon so without being able to see their father's and mother's names I can't  tell with certainty which branch they are from ...I was over in Dublin just recently and looked at the Kilbarron baptismal records on microfilm in the National Library but as there are only  records from 1864 onwards i was only able to use it to verify exact dates of birth/baptism for Bernard and Bridget's children - unfortunately, i didn't manage to get any further info on their parents' generation so it looks like i might have come to the end of the road on going any further back - unless someone out there knows different ....
