T J TROWELL
« on: Monday 01 August 11 06:51 BST (UK) »
While looking through papers on Trove, I came across an article which stated that Mr T J Trowell was a member of the Forbes Chess Club in 1897.

I have been unable to find out anything about him.

So, my questions are:
Who was he?
What was his occupation?
What was he doing in Central New South Wales at that time?
Or was he just visiting? and If so, who was he visiting?

Any information will be appreciated.

Jean

Hi Jean

This article says he was a commercial traveller.
The Maitland Mercury & Hunter River General Advertiser (NSW : 1843 - 1893) Thursday 17 December 1891 p 6 Article . . . . . , Thomas John Trowell, a commercial traveller, residing at Wallsend, said he had been acting manager at the . . . .

It appears Thomas John TROWELL was associated with selling Drapery in VIC. He married in VIC in 1860 to Isabella SCOTT who died in 1883. They had at least five children.  One son was Frederick Gilbert who married in NSW.  It seems TJ TROWELL married again in NSW and had a second family?

Thomas and William TROWELL, and two others,  arrived in VIC on the ship LADY BIRD in July 1853.  William died in NSW as did Thomas John TROWELL.
