Fitchberg, Massechusets, burial.
« on: Sunday 31 July 11 13:05 BST (UK) »
Hi all

Has anyone any ideas how I may locate the grave of my great Uncle. George Ackers. he was buried at Forrest Hill cemetery, Fitchberg on 29th December 1957.

I live in the UK and I'm struggling to find contacts.

Thanks in advance.

Michael.

Hi Michael,

Have you tried to contact the cemetery for further information on the location of the grave ?

You could join Find A Grave (free) and create a memorial page for George Ackers at Forest Hill cemetery and then request a photograph - its explained here -  How to submit a photo request.  Hope this helps.

The nearest RAOGK volunteer (7th on the list for Worcester - link below) I can see will do grave stones pictures in Lancaster, so may be able to assist you with Fitchberg. (although they may possibly want the exact grave location)

Hi Sandra

Many thanks for your time. I've considered ringing Forrest Hill cemetery , but would an international call not be costly?
I Think I may try GAOGC as you  suggest, The volunteers are great I've had help with my Canadian research before.
Ill also look in to, Find a grave.

I'll let you know if I get lucky.

Many thanks again.

Michael.

I looked around a bit in Google and it looks like Forest Hills Cemetery is run by the city of Fitchburg. Here is the page for the cemetery: http://www.ci.fitchburg.ma.us/government/departments/cemetery/

and for the city itself: http://www.ci.fitchburg.ma.us/

There is a contact link on the top of both pages.
A cemetery is usually willing to tell you where the grave is located. Sometimes they get a little upset if you are just asking them if someone is buried there.

Many thanks Old

This looks promising, I've e mailed them at the address you gave me. If I do get an answer I'll use RAOGK to see if I can get a photo.

I'll keep you informed.

Michael.
