Blue screen

I am about scream.

This blue screen has been coming up every time I start the computer.  It says bois is not up to date, hard drive and other things.  But all is up to date.
I have taken all the cords out and re-installed one by one and still the blue screen comes up.
It takes about six goes and recovery before I can get in.

Any ideas? ???

What Operating System are you using? eg Windows XP
Are there any stop codes on the Blue Screen? eg 0x000.......
Have you added any new hardware or updated any drivers on the system recently?
How old is the system? Possible cause is that the BIOS settings are not being stored in a 'powered off' state due to dead CMOS battery on the mainboard, commonly a silver button battery CR2032.

Windows Vista, and only about three years old.
There were some numbers across the bottom.
No new hardware added.
All started after our June quake, had the computer on when two shakes came through, but we do have a serge board.

Hi

Try to get the exact message.

If the BSoD flies by too quickly and you have something to take a video, then video the boot sequence until BSoD occurs then play it back and halt at relevant point. Note the main message down.

This is probably a stupid question, but are these CMOS batteries rechargeable,
by which I mean, if the computer was provided with mains power, and left
switched on for a day or two, would the battery absorb enough charge to
retain the BIOS settings through the next shutdown and restart?

They are non-rechargeable so need to be replaced when they are unable sustain the systems BIOS settings when the PC is in a power off state.
