Hi all im new to Rootschat and was wondering if someone out there can help,
Im looking for information on my great grandmother, i have marriage certificate, death certificate and found her on the 1901 census, i cant find her anywhere before the marriage in 1888,
Name: Sophia Elizabeth Knighton
Born:   C1865
Married: Frederick William Tomkins in LIverpool 1888
in the 1901 census she was listed in Toxteth Liverpool, on her Marriage certificate her father is listed as Charles Knighton Master Mariner Deceased.
The Charles Knighton i can find doesnt show as having any children.
If any one can help i would be grateful

Can't seem to find them on the 1901!  Can you give the reference?  Also, where does it say she was born?

Hi,
   1901 census ref is RG13/3497
 i
It says she was born in camberwell on the census but the only sophias born there in that period had fathers called william and james not Charles

Do you have the names of the witnesses to the marriage?

Lines: London, Middlesex
Silvester: Hampshire - Portsmouth
Manyard: Lincolnshire - Whaplode
Bradford: Bristol, Devon, Birmingham

However, tough family this...Sophia is now down as being born in Scotland, and Frederick in Clerkenwell Middx!

I have Frederick as Clerkenwell
As for Sophia being born Scotland i ahve searched Scotlands people to no Avail,
of the 8 children she had i have looked at all the baptism records and on one of them in 1894 she changed her Middle name to Mary.
She is very difficult to trace

There are two births for Sophia Knightons on FreeBMD registered in Camberwell:
