RCAF service records look up please
« on: Friday 29 July 11 16:43 BST (UK) »
Hi

I know this is a long shot, but I can't think of any other way of finding out the info. I need.

Is anyone planning a visit to Library & Archives Canada, Ottawa who would be willing to check something for me?

A couple of years ago I wrote to the Archives asking about the service records of my husbands late uncle who was killed while serving with the RCAF during WW2.  They very kindly sent me some documents - notes made at his interview when he applied to the force and details of the accident which killed him and the pilot.  They said I could request a copy of his full service record but that this could hold a few pages or a couple of hundred but they were unable to tell me how many there were.  The letter did state I could examine the records in person, but as I live in England there's not much chance of me being able to do that any time soon.

I can't take the chance of ordering the records only to find I can't afford it.  So I was wondering therefore, if anyone was planning a visit to the archives and had time, if there was anyway they could find out how many pages there are so I can work out if I can afford to order them.

As I said, I know it's a long shot, but I have to try.

Sandie,

I live in Ottawa and am willing to drop by the Archives for you.  If you want to post or PM his information to me I will request the records.  If there aren't too many I can take digital pictures of them for you and send the images to you.  My great uncle had a box full of papers that included his pay book, medical records, letters to family after his death, etc., perhaps 100 pages all in all.

I apologise for not responding to your reply, I'm afraid xmas took over.  It was very kind of you to offer to visit the archives for me, is it too late for me to take the offer up?
Again, apologies for not responding sooner.
