WESTCOTT - looking for some history of my ancesters in North Molton Devon Eng first one I have is George B: 1540 in Chumleigh, near North Molton.  Married Sibley Saunders in 1562 and Died Chumleigh 1580.  Anyone interested and any further relatives? or knowledge of life in those times? Incidentally name is now Wescott.

You are extremely fortunate to have been able to trace back as far as 1540 - instructions to keep parish registers of births, marriages & burials were not instructed to commence until 1538. In fact my understanding is that for the parish of Chulmleigh registers only have survived from 1651, with Bishop's Transcripts existing in some form back to 1610.
