A bit more - I've not entered the dates into my FH program yet.

Alexander Montgomerie's ancestors so far.

Montgomerie-1 is the Robert Montgomery b. 1860 line and Montgomerie-2 is the Catherine Walker line.

The Kerr line (starting with Marion Kerr) are from Bute, James Montgomerie is from Ireland  and Elizabeth McCulloch is from Kirkcudbrightshire. I think the others are all from Ayrshire.

Will add the dates and places later and be back  ;D

hi,
i've stumbled onto rootschat and came across your postings on several of my ancestors, so i signed up and have sent you this message to ask you about some information on my family tree.
my grandmother was abigail mcgeachy montgomery b.1890, daughter of robert montgomery and catherine walker. my father remembers uncles visiting when he was younger but not much about them (he's now in his 80's) i have been on scotlands people for the last few years and i had managed to get as far as james montgomery / agnes mcculloch but ran out of ideas until i came across your own postings.
i was interested to note that you think they were from ireland. do you know whereabouts?
regards
don

Hello Liz.
Spotted a headstone in Bannockburn for a Montgomery Stevenson and just wondered if there was any connection to your tree.

Cheers.

Hi Liz, I wonder if you are still doing research on the Montgomery family.  I share a number of your ancestors.  Jane Banks Baillie and Robert Montgomery are my 2x Great Grandparents. Their daughter Jane Montgomery (who married David Stevenson) is my Great Grandmother.  She  lived in Kilwinning and then Crosshouse.  I'd be interested to share details of our tree if you get back to me.  Regards J
Hyndman (Argyll, Bute & Ayrshire), Harris (Hereford), Stevenson (Ayrshire), Strachan, Montgomery, Baillie (All Ayrshire).
McKellar (Renfrewshire), McGallan (Ayrshire/Renfrewshire), Birmingham (India/Ireland), Walker (Fife)

If anyone comes across Robert Montgomery/ie, born about 1847 or maybe around 1843 (sources for his age vary), parents Robert Montgomery/ie and Elizabeth McNaught, I'd be very interested.

He married a relative of mine, Elizabeth Evans, on 31 December 1870 in Glasgow. Elizabeth had - how shall I put it? - a chequered career. She was, for instance, in the County Prison in Paisley in 1881, and she ended up what the Inspector of Poor described as 'cohabiting' with her cousin.

But it's Robert I'm now interested in. His marriage certificate describes him as a jewellery hawker, and his wife's death certificate says he was a photographer. There is a Robert Montgomery, married, boarder, photographer in 1881 in Wishaw, and in the same household is another boarder, Mary Montgomery, also described as married. Apart from that possible sighting, I have failed so far to find his birth or death or any other census record, so all information will be helpful.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
