Hi Cazza
You must go into a record office! There's so much more that's not online - huge scale old maps, the really local newspapers - get a date if you can - the parish records apart from the registers - and the catalogues to see what's survived for your area, original records - to say nothing of the amazing expertise of the staff - and other researchers.
But you probably know all that!
To answer your question I'd normally be in Carlisle but I haven't seen it yet as I said abopve, as I'm on an extended stay in West Cumbria so I've been getting to know the office in Whitehaven.
The films for the parish registers are in both but the originals and other records that go with them are split. North Cumbria in Carlisle and the rect in Whitehaven.
Not as simple as that though as the offices have different collec tions so check before you go - there are lots of details on A2A or ring.
Meanwhile I'm not sure if you're local or not but you're welcome to a lookup.
