Photos in order
« on: Wednesday 27 July 11 15:48 BST (UK) »
I have taken  a large amount of pics over three days at various places.
Now I`ve uploaded them to my PC and they are all mixed up.

Why has   this happened. Any ideas.  ???

Looking at your pictures are they all numbered?
If so right click on 'arrange icons by name', I find is the easiest.

Yes they are all numbered and  have been saved to a folder,, but they are not in the order I took them. They are in a different order on the memory card.
I deleted them and uploaded them again , but it still happened.
Totally baffled by this.
I`m worried that any pics of parish registers I may take soon will also come out of order.
I also couldn`t find anywhere to say `arrange icons by name`  for the pics in the folder.

Ok, tried that, but still exactly the same, the pics on the camera  memory card are uploading and being saved in a different order.
I have been using Finepix Viewer  which I have always done with no problem.
What I have done now is deleted the folders and uploaded them again  using Windows camera wizard, and guess what - they are in the correct order, then when viewing them using Finepix they are still OK, so it seems to be uploading them with Finepix that has caused the problem.
I am still curious as to why they change, it could cause me massive problems in the future.
Thanks for trying to help.

This seems to be a fairly common problem with no solution. I recently had it when uploading to a website from my pc. On your computer you may get round this annoyance by selecting "details" view and then clicking on "date" once or twice  to have the arrow-head pointing upwards. Hopefully your camera will have allocated a date/time stamp to each pic, down to the last second, and more hopefully, this information will have been transferred to your pc without being corrupted.

Once you have selected the order, you can change the view, say, to icons.

cheers, falcybe

Aha --- Hopefully your camera will have allocated a date/time stamp to each pic, down to the last second,
I didn`t have the time set for the  photos, I womder of that caused an issue.

I`ll  have to have a `play around`

Thanks everyone for your help , once again - much appreciated.

On my camera, choice of date stamp on/off.
Drag each photo to hard drive then into a named directory created.
Then select 'put into order',end of story. (Then name each photo as scene 1/2/3 etc)

I use my camera (Nikon) with the date/time stamp turned off but that information is still recorded in the metadata.  If your camera works the same way this should work:

1. open the folder where you have stored your pictures.
2. Click on the arrow next to the Views button and select Details.  This will list your photos by name and tell you the data taken and size of the photo.
3. Hover the cursor over Data Taken then click on the arrow that appears next to it.  Another little box will appear - click on Sort and this will sort the contents of the folder according to date and time taken.  You can change the sort order (ascending or descending) by repeating the process.

Hope that helps.
