The person in question is John Archer born 1895 in Butt Lane Staffordshire. He enlisted in August 1914, and married Ethel Dyche Warner in 1916 at St Lukes Wallsend. They had one son, John George. John the father died in September 1918. They were living at 20 Maud Terrace, Wallsend, on 19/12/1917 when he was discharged from the army.  I have spoken with The Vicar of St Lukes and as the church has no cemetery he made the following suggestions, St Peters, Churchbank or Holycross as possible places to look. He is on the memorial plaque in St Lukes, and also a local church, thank you.

 Death Notice.

" ARCHER. Wallsend, 20 Maude Terrace, the residence of his
mother-in-law, Mrs Kate Dyche, 3rd inst, aged 23, John,
(late of 3rd North Staffords) dearly beloved husband of Ethel
and 3rd son of John and the late Florence Archer of
   Butt Lane, Staffordshire.
Interment Wallsend Cemetery, Saturday. Cortege leaving
above address 2.45. All friends kindly welcome. Miltary Honours.
  Staffordshire papers please copy"

Published in Evening Chronicle , Thursday 5th Sept 1918.
Source: Newspapers on film. Newcastle City Library.

  Information from the Library:
 Two Civil Cemeteries in Wallsend.
Willington, Church Bank ( Records from c1870s)
Wallsend, Holy Cross.  (with records available from 1918.

I think local folk differentiate the two, by Old and New prefixes.

The death notice refers only to " Wallsend" so i would guess he
 was buried in Church Bank.

Records available in Tyne & Wear archives, Newcastle, and North Shields Library.

Michael... sincere thanks.... quite overwhelmed at the moment.... I have been researching local men who died during WW1.  My G.G Uncle, his cousin and his second cousin, John Archer as above, all from Butt lane died during WW1. John is not on CWGC....  wondering if there any grounds for him to be commemorated... I have a long way to go... Also need his Death certificate....
Dec 1917 ' not the result of, but aggravated by strain of active service' he was suffering from spinal TB, apparently before enlisting but was passed as 'fit'
many threads to bring together but thank you so much.. really appreciate it. Hoping to visit soon and now have an idea where to look,  Nel

Hi Beryl, yes please to the photo's. It was me via "in from the cold" and their help and expertise combined with my research that got John commemorated on CWGC... I would love to go back and visit his grave. He is remembered locally at St Martin's Talke. My GGGrandmother was Sarah Archer so I think John's and Samuel's Aunt, have more details of John as I have been in touch with a relative of his wife if you are interested, also a picture of him and his brother who also died ww1... Need to have a look at my tree again to refresh my memory. Is there a white grave stone yet??? Thanks so much Nel

Hi Nel,
Do you live local to Talke or Butt Lane, only asking because I am going to see my cousin on Thurs afternoon at Butt Lane and could drop the pics off if you are local,
Other than that if you let me have your email address I will forward the email that my other cousin sent with the photo attachments.
I live in Congleton but all my Archer relations live at Butt Lane,
Look forward to hearing from you,
                    Regards Beryl
