Vista Games gone missing - COMPLETED after grandson arrived!!
« on: Tuesday 26 July 11 13:50 BST (UK) »
My laptop eventually stopped working, fortunately, after I'd backed up everything onto an external hard drive.

We had to re-configure the laptop to its original default settings and then restore all the documents etc.  I had to download various programs again, such as Legacy but everything is now back as it was, with the exception of some music I had downloaded that I can no longer play - not a problem as they were free downloads anyway and some Microsoft Vista Games.

The games folder should include about 9 games, Hearts, Chess Titans, Inkball, Minesweeper, Solitaire, Spider Solitaire, Mahjong, etc.  However, it now only includes Hearts, Chess, Inkball and Minesweeper.  The ones I want and play when I'm bored, Solitaire etc. are missing.  I've done a search of the laptop but they have just disappeared.  I had to download Vista SP2 yesterday, which had disappeared after the problems I'd had and I'd hoped that would sort out the missing games, but it hasn't.

Anyone any idea how I can get them back again.  From what I've read on Microsoft site, they come with Vista and can't be downloaded separately.

Try this:
Click Start Button
Click Control Panel
Click Programs
Click 'Turn Windows features on or off'
Expand the 'Games' checkbox and ensure all the games you want are selected. If not then select them and click 'OK'

There may be additional steps after this but Vista should advise you.

Hi GBay

I tried that yesterday, that wasn't the problem.  Part of the games are there and installed.  Fortunately, my grandson has just turned up and told me that the problem is that after my laptop had everything restored, but I had to download the programs I use, such as Legacy etc. the programs I forgot to download were RealPlayer and QuickTime.  As soon as I downloaded and ran RealPlayer, the games I wanted were accessible again.

Now all I have to do is open each piece of music individually and "ask" it to play with RealPlayer and eventually I should be back to normal.

Thank you for your interest, I'm going to call this Completed now.
